Project 52 week 15: handheld twilight shots

This week I went for a walk around Port Melbourne at sunset and tried to take some shots in the fading light to get familiar with shooting at this time of day. My camera (a NEX 5) has a number of settings to help a bit in these conditions. Some of the shots were taken in aperture priority mode and the others were a combination of ‘Night View’ ‘Hand-held twilight’ and ‘sunset’. Hand-held twilight fires of a number of shots and combines them into a single image. sunset mode really highlights the reds and oranges. These three modes only record images in jpg format while I have been starting to experiment with raw format (it has saved me a couple of times when I have messed up the white balance). I have had to decrease the size of the images quite a bit and it seems to have had an effect on the quality of them – need to find the best way to put suitably sized files onto the Web that are still good quality.

Cheers.
